- Company XYZ had a culture of knowledge sharing, emails, discussions over various chat mechanisms and very strong software implementation groups / practices in multiple domains and technologies. It was among the top choices with customers and employees. It supported further education with certificates, diplomas and degrees by top educational institutes. Continuous learning was emphasized day in and out via multiple online training every month. All this in India in mid 2000s. Profit center concept was entrenched into each unit. Come 2008/9 recession and company makes incomprehensible decisions like merging with companies which are completely unrelated and finally a disclosure that company is lacking savings, revenue and that accounts are fudged. Company was winner of various awards as well.
- Learning: Try to gain a holistic perspective of where you work not just via your learning at team level. Look at publicly available financial & annual statements plus more. Getting a holistic perspective of company is more important than looking at individual areas or departments or teams.
